Ecuador update for Saturday morning, Oct. 2nd, 2010 -- we're doing well!

We want to thank you for the tremendous outpouring of prayer and support that we have received in the last 3 days with the uprising in Ecuador. In summary, on Thursday the police protested a new law that was approved on Wednesday cutting their benefits. They launched a nationwide strike and sequestered the president in the Police Hospital for 12 hours. The military dramatically rescued the president at 10 pm that night in the midst of heavy gunfire (which we could hear from our house just 1.5 miles away). Immediately afterward the situation seemed to calm down totally. We all stayed home yesterday - schools were closed and HCJB encouraged us to work from home if possible. The roads and airports had closed on Thursday, but reopened that same night. Police went back to work yesterday, but I think officially the state of emergency might still be in effect. Things otherwise look like they have returned to normal today and by Monday it should be business as usual. Today we plan to venture out to the grocery store and expect an uneventful time.  Thank you so much for your love and your prayers. We are all fine and learning how to pray for Ecuador and its people a little better each day.

Love, Amy for everyone
