Radio Training in Loja, Ecuador

I recently spent three days in Loja -- it's way down in southern Ecuador, about three hours from Perú.  Beautiful city with really nice people; they are often considered some of the most polite in the country.  My boss, Allen, and I gave training sessions to broadcasters from at least three different regions, on everything from using audio editing software to developing your station's personality.  The group was really fun and had lots of enthusiasm and many of them already have developed the creativity that they need to build on to get better at sharing Christ's love on the radio.

It was also fun to hear them talk about the things that bug them about radio -- things they can tell are unnecessary and annoying to listeners but that DJs still do.  For example, you occasionally hear announcers talk right in the middle of a song (does anyone like this? even the DJ's mom?) and one student said it just clashes with her and she's right.  We are trying to teach them to be discerning about everything they say and do with radio and to not pick up bad habits that they hear.

We just wanted you to know that your support of this work is absolutely helping!  Tons of light bulbs popped into their heads as they realized how powerful radio can be, and your prayers and gifts are reaching out to help communicate how much God loves people.

Hopefully we'll have some photos up soon!

Tim
